The ISF discussed the potential of NDBs in the context of ESG trends

On October 6, 2023 Prof. Petr Teplý, director of the ISF, gave a presentation on “THE ROLE OF NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT BANKS AND COOPERATION WITH COMMERCIAL BANKS” at a meeting of bankers from the EU at the Czech Banking Association in Prague.

The main conclusions of his presentation were as follows:
1. National development banks should be complementary to commercial banks, not their competitors;
2. National development banks have recently begun to intensively deal with ESG topics, there is also potential for them to finance “non-green” assets that commercial banks will not finance;
3. The hybrid distribution model of development bank products combines the advantages of direct and indirect distribution models;
4. NRB has the potential to become a key player in the economic policy of the Czech Republic, but it will still be a long way to go.
